GPT-6 brings interactive interfaces to ChatGPT: what changes
Updated October 9, 2026. OpenAI announced the rollout of GPT-6 in ChatGPT on October 7, alongside a capability it calls Intelligent UI. The headline change is a response format that can blend regular text with visual and interactive components when they better suit the task.
What will users actually notice?
Instead of answering everything in long paragraphs, ChatGPT can arrange options side by side, present an explorable diagram or create a small tool inside the conversation. OpenAI’s examples include expense-splitting and savings calculators. The product still uses plain text when that is the clearest way to respond.
Progressive answers
The company also says GPT-6 can begin showing useful content while it continues working through a more demanding request. That shifts the experience from waiting for one complete reply to seeing relevant portions develop along the way.
Availability and important limitations
OpenAI’s October 7 announcement described a staged rollout beginning with Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, followed by Free and Go from October 8. What someone sees can depend on their plan and rollout status. OpenAI specified that this update concerns ChatGPT’s chat experience, rather than automatically replacing models used in Work or Codex.
Three useful ways to try it
- Ask for a side-by-side comparison of AI services, including trade-offs and missing information.
- Request an interactive explanation of a technical concept and explore changing inputs.
- Describe a practical task, such as splitting group expenses, and ask for a usable mini-tool.
Why it matters: conversational AI is beginning to behave more like a flexible interface. The real test is whether the new format helps a person understand the answer, verify facts and finish a task—not whether it looks impressive.
